The Tour

From Wombat Bend, Yarra Valley to the Mountain Tops, Wetlands & Shorelines

Early morning, you’ll have a chance to search for the heart-racing all singing-all dancing Superb Lyrebird in its natural habitat of cool mountain forest, along with other residents of that beautiful environment

You’ll then travel across Melbourne to the famous Western Treatment Plant and be astounded at the vast populations of wild birds that inhabit this world-class wetland & shores. It’s the southern equivalent to a Top End birding day.

What some happy bird watchers have to say...

“…A ‘David Attenborough’ experience … Paul led us unerringly to the Lyrebirds and other interesting forest birds in the Dandenongs; and at the WTP a huge range of water birds in what is an enormous complex. What impressed us was that Paul knew exactly where to find each species…”

Brian, Berkhamsted, UK

“…Our greatest day of birding ever.”

Michael, Alabama, USA

“…What an incredible day we spent with Paul. We saw more wildlife in one day than any other day of our month long holiday in Australia! We saw birds that are hard to find, some quite rare and I photographed more than 100 species…”

Ze C, Wokingham, UK

“…We had no idea one could see so much wild life so near Melbourne but we got over 90 species of birds in one day and we had a magnificent time. Paul is extremely knowledgeable and indefatigable in the search for yet another bird.”

James, London, UK

“…I had a great time with Paul. He was very courteous, knowledgeable, and tireless in his quest to make sure I saw the birds and animals I wanted to see. The black wallaby, 10 or so kookaburras and 4 lyrebirds were the highlights of the day but we also got to see crimson rosellas, magpies, striated thornbills, golden whistlers, among others. I would highly recommend Paul’s services to anyone travelling to Melbourne.”

David, Raleigh, North Carolina, USA

“… a jaw dropping introduction to the joys of this magnificent wetland! Aspects of it reminded me of the Camargue or the Coto Donana in southern Europe ….. overflowing with an extraordinary diversity of waterbirds. Every which way, settling pools full of Egrets, Herons, Stilts and Avocets, brimming with shorebirds. And above, a sky full of raptors to enjoy. Paul is a terrific host and guide. “
